Luxor solves this problem with a Battery Monitoring System (BMS) coupled with an OLED readout. Luxor's computer controlled BMS learns how you're using the flashlight based on your desired brightness and focus levels. It then tells you precisely how many day:hours:minutes of battery life you have remaining before Luxor's batteries go empty and much more...

Luxor's intelligent algorithms learn how you're using your flashlight and calculates your energy usage at roughly 500 times/second giving you ultra accurate battery metering. Luxor's high contrast OLED display shows you precisely your exact mAh capacity, battery charge percentage, time to charge/discharge in (day:hours:minutes), battery voltage, current in amps, power in watts, battery condition, mode, light output levels, number of charge cycles, and the battery's temperature.

Luxor also employs many additional advanced features such as automatic low power sleep mode, a double buffering graphics processor for seamless OLED transitions and intelligent battery monitoring algorithms to precisely calculate your battery's condition as it degrades over time. A high temperature protection circuit prevents the lithium batteries from ever being overcharged and over drained. Many other batteries on the market are dependent on the actual voltage of the battery to represent the current state of charge. Luxor's intelligent battery metering system is immune to such inaccuracies because it does not use the voltage to determine the current state of charge. A lithium battery's voltage will vary drastically depending on the actual load or power draw from your battery. Luxor, employs a current based method of battery metering coupled with PLX Devices' proprietary algorithms making Luxor's battery monitoring system supremely accurate down to a single mAh. Decent flashlight for the money, and is worth the cost. By far the most light I have ever had a flashlight produce. It is heavy and does get hot. The digital focus beam does not exactly excite. With a mode button on the backside and three buttons on top, it takes some getting used to. Try it out over streamlight and you will notice a big difference.
